The flowers cover about a mile of hillside along Interstate 5, north of Palomar Airport Road. The fields stretch out in alternating bands of red, yellow, orange and pink. Although most of the fields are planted in ranunculus, visitors can see other varieties of flowers such as gladiolus, watzonia, star of Bethlehem, oxalis, and spraxis.

For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields® at Carlsbad Ranch, in Carlsbad, California, are in a full bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May - literally bringing the famous fields back to life.

The 11 scenic kids races, which vary in length, make the Junior Carlsbad an appropriate event for children of all ages and ability levels. Each year, the Junior Carlsbad hosts thousands of local children at the event, where every child is a winner and receives a tee shirt, finishers medal and goodie bag. Children's rides, an international food center, and an old-fashioned pancake breakfast guarantee that you'll find fun for the whole family! Parking for this very popular event is limited, so visitors are encouraged to use the complimentary shuttles that run to and from the faire every 15 minutes. The shuttle pick-up locations are at the northwest corner of Sears at Westfield Shoppingtown Plaza Camino Real (Highway 78 and Jefferson) as well as at the Poinsettia Coaster Station (Poinsettia exit off of I-5).
