Magee Park is a beautiful 2.1-acre park that is a popular spot for weddings. The craftsman-style Magee House was originally built by Samuel Church Smith (one of the founders of Carlsbad Land and Water Company) in 1887 and is now home to the Carlsbad Historical Society and its archives. The house is furnished in a turn-of-the-century style reflecting the life of the early Carlsbad settlers who once owned the house.
The historical gardens at Magee Park reflect Carlsbad’s agricultural heritage and feature a nationally registered rose garden. Take a walk through this scenic rose garden to discover over 125 different roses that represent 15 different rose families. The development of these rose beds earned Carlsbad the honor of being named an “American Rose City” in 2002 by the American Rose Society. Magee Park is also home to the L. John Simons Twin Inns Gazebo, as well as several historic buildings including the Magee House, Heritage Hall and Granary. Take a tour of these buildings through the Carlsbad Historical Society.
